Have You ever Hiked Up Tumamoc Hill in Tucson?

by Lois Berman 05/18/2020

Tumamoc Hill will reopen to the public on Memorial Day!  Hours for hiking will be 4 am to 10 pm.  Hikers will need to wear face coverings and be at least six feet apart from others.

There will be arrows along the path, spaced 10 feet apart, to help people maintain physical distancing and direct the flow of foot traffic up and down the hill.

Visitors are asked to limit group sizes to three people and hand-sanitizing stations along the path should be used.

Some important facts about the hill...

  • It is a 1.5 mile walk from base to top of hill.
  • It is a 3 mile round trip walk.
  • There is approximate 700 foot rise in elevation from bottom to top.
  • The grade is gentler on the bottom road, steeper on the upper road.

Hikers are asked to skip touching the gate at the top of the hill – a tradition for many upon reaching the top.
