Hiking Season

by Lois Berman 10/04/2019

The temperatures are finally coming down and that means it's time for hiking season! If you love to hike like I do, then this is a special time of year here in southern Arizona, and the best part is, it lasts throughout the fall, winter and spring. There are so many beautiful trails to explore, whether you're a beginner looking for something easy or experienced and looking for a challenge. Many of the trails in the Tortolita Mountains begin at the end of Dove Mountain Road, so close to where I live. There's parking and restrooms right past the entrance. It's a good idea to decide which trail you want to do before you go, so you can prepare. There are guided hikes available too; you just have to sign up in advance. Trails range from under two to almost nine miles, and elevations are between roughly 2,800-4,200 feet. Gorgeous desert botanicals will line your path and make even the more challenging hikes a beautiful experience. You can see stunning vistas and views from everywhere, and depending on your timing, you might catch a pretty sunrise or one of Arizona's famously spectacular sunsets. Ready to hike? I definitely recommend packing plenty of water and wearing good hiking shoes and sunscreen no matter what time of year it is; it's always important to take care of yourself. Depending on how long you plan to hike, you might want to pack some light snacks or energy bars to keep you going. It's also good to keep a first aid kit in your backpack just in case. Now you're ready to enjoy some of the beautiful sights and sounds of the desert. Some people like the solitude of a solo hike; I prefer to enjoy nature with friends. Want to go for a hike with me? Contact me anytime and I'll be ready to grab my shoes and go!
